ReplyDeleteThis website discusses e-learning, mainly its possibilities, advantages and disadvantages briefly. First of all it defines e-learning and deals with the use of web resources, wikis, blogs, LMS, virtual classroom as well as MP3 players, mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) and Web 2 to create more flexible learning options. Then it moves on to e-learning synchronous, which is defined as any learning event where interaction happens simultaneously in real-time. It, then catalogues Virtual Classrooms, Shared Whiteboards, Application Sharing, Teleconferencing, Videoconferencing, Virtual Worlds, Face to Face Workshops which are synchronous and learning events where interaction is delayed over time, namely, Email, Discussion forums, CD ROMS, Textbooks, Video/Audio resources, which allow learners to participate according to their schedule, and be remote from the trainer.
This website has many more features dealing with various aspects of e-learning. However, it only enumerates various aspects of e-learning and does not provide detailed holistic understanding of e-learning.

ReplyDeleteThis Website deals at length with the norms for preparing effective e-learning material. It starts with the ‘Five E-learning Components’ – audience, course structure, page design, usability and content engagement – whose understanding will help us to design and develop a course that meets computer-based training objectives. Each e-learning component plays an important role in designing an online course. Among all of the components, none plays a larger role than the Audience. Course structure refers to how a course is designed for e-learning. The structure of a course plays a critical role in how the audience learns the material. Like the importance of charm and charisma of the classroom instructor, the page design of an online course is critical to the learning process. How a page is designed can have a huge impact on the learning experience of the audience. Because e-learning is a self-study medium, interacting with the learner becomes more important than most types of training forums. Content engagement refers to how the learner interacts with content of the course. Because studies have shown that the learning experience is greatly enhanced when exercises or activities are incorporated into the learning process, content engagement is critical. Creative ideas are discarded because they do not work. Likewise, a well organized e-learning course can be ill-received if it does not function properly. Usability refers to the testing of e-learning content and applications. Knowing and understanding these 5 major e-learning components will help us to build instructionally sound and successful online programmes.
